GWEC is willing to share experiences and cooperate with Petrovietnam in the field of offshore WP

On 24th May 2022, at the headquarters of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong had a meeting and worked with the delegation of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) led by Mr. Mark Hutchinson – Chair of the Southeast Asia Task Force.
Attending the meeting on behalf of GWEC were representative leaders from member enterprises of GWEC Southeast Asia. Petrovietnam was represented by Vice President Pham Tien Dzung and leaders of the Group’s Divisions/ Administration Office.

On behalf of the Group’s leaders, the Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong welcomed Mr. Mark Hutchinson and GWEC members to visit and work with Petrovietnam. On the occasion, Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong shared about the Group’s strategy in the process of responding to climate change and the trend of the energy transition, Petrovietnam’s determination in strategic activities to contribute to realizing the commitment of the Vietnamese Government at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

According to Petrovietnam Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong, developing renewable energy is one of the major orientations of the Vietnamese Government in implementing the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. In the draft Power Plan VIII, an offshore wind power capacity of 7GW is expected to be developed in the period from now to 2030. With a system of facilities (including seaports, factories, warehouses, transportation/ construction equipment), modern technology, qualified human resources, and experience in implementing large offshore projects of regional stature, Petrovietnam believes the Government will trust and support the Group to develop offshore wind power projects in Vietnam in the near future.

At the meeting, Mr. Mark Hutchinson – Chair of the GWEC Southeast Asia Task Force, and GWEC members introduced and exchanged issues to develop the offshore wind power industry in Vietnam, cooperation opportunities between GWEC member companies and Petrovietnam in terms of services that Petrovietnam can provide for offshore wind power projects.

Mr. Mark Hutchinson highly appreciated Petrovietnam’s experience, capacity and orientation in investing in offshore wind power in Vietnam. At the same time, he expressed his hope that in the coming time, GWEC would continue to receive the Group’s support in implementing activities and be willing to share experiences and cooperate with Petrovietnam and its member units in offshore wind power projects in Vietnam.

Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong thanked the GWEC delegation for the exchange of ideas and sharing with Petrovietnam, and hoped the experiences of GWEC in the world would help the Government of Vietnam make appropriate policies for the development of offshore wind power; as well as help Petrovietnam and its member units have many cooperation opportunities with the goal of becoming an important producer of offshore wind power and in the supply chain for the offshore wind power industry in Vietnam and in the region.
